What Ceramic Tile?

Ceramic tiles are kiln-fired at a lower temperature than porcelain tiles, making them less dense, softer, and more porous. The clay used in its composition is also less refined, making it a more affordable, albeit less durable, option. Many homeowners opt to install ceramic tiles as flooring, especially in warm climates, where the natural coolness of the tile becomes a welcome perk in the summer months.

Ceramic Tile Upkeep and Maintenance
It’s easy to keep ceramic floors looking great for years on end. Once per week, sweep or vacuum your ceramic tile to clear the way for easier mopping. Then, using a mild dish detergent mixed with hot water, work your way from one end of the tile to the other with a string mop. Finally, dry the entire area swiftly and thoroughly with a towel or microfiber cloth.

With a wide selection of colors, textures, and sizes in rustic, refined, and casual looks, ceramic tile is perfect for all kinds of interior applications.

  • Dirt Resistance Ceramic tiles do not retain dust or residues as easily as many other flooring surfaces. They can be easily cleaned with common household materials. Additionally, they do not need polishing or buffing to maintain their finish. A day-to-day cleaning procedure retains the look of the finish and shine on this type of flooring.
  • Stain Resistance The stain resistance of ceramic tile varies depending on its capacity to resist moisture. Glazed tiles and even some unglazed tiles resist all types of stains and can be cleaned easily with some guidance.
  • Slip/Skid Resistance One practical consideration is the level of slip resistance your tile floor requires. Slip resistance involves two factors – your tile floor’s likely exposure to spills, and your environmental requirements. The more your floor will be exposed to spills, the higher your need is for a slip-resistant floor tile. Also, homes with younger children, disabled or elderly people need to have floor tiles with slip resistant characteristics.

Color and Style

  • Color Permanence Because color is fired into a tile’s clay body (in the case of unglazed tiles) or onto a tile’s glazed surface (for glazed tiles), fading does not occur. The colors in ceramic tiles do not fade even if exposed to direct sunlight and its color-leaching UV rays. They remain permanently color fast.
  • Style The world of ceramic tile is wide and spectacular, with a seemingly endless family of product choices and style options. Ceramic tile flooring and wall products are offered in a broad range of textures, patterns and sizes. When combined with a spectrum of grout and glaze options, they offer significant design options for any room in virtually any home style.

Ceramic Water Resistance: Glazed ceramic flooring tiles have a protective layer that rests over the material, making them impervious to water and stain penetration. They are also naturally resistant to the ravages of high humidity conditions. These properties make them ideal for use in moist environments such as bathrooms or kitchens.

Durable Ceramic Tile: Ceramic flooring is extremely tough and the tiles are difficult to crack. A quality installation can last for 10 – 20 years and longer if well maintained. If a single tile does crack due to a severe impact, the process of replacing that tile is relatively simple.

Allergen Concerns : Ceramic tiles have a hard, solid surface, that does not tend to attract dirt, dust, pollen, or other allergens. When these small debris particles do land on a ceramic floor, they stand out against the surface, making it easy to wipe them away with a mop or sponge. This helps to keep the air free of irritating materials that can be harmful to asthma sufferers.
